When Anti-Crime Officers Came Calling.

WHEN ANTI-CRIME OFFICERS CAME CALLING.
At the beginning it was like occassional harrasment of hoodlums by the state security services (SSS). But this time around it is a different ball game entirely.

The slave master is at war with his wards and his wards lost their security, confidence and “glory”. The Anticrime officers were drafted from the mobile police, the State Security Services (SSS) and, the Directorate of Military intelligence (DMI).

On the 26th of September, the squard, known as SASS (Special Anticrime Security Services) arrived in Okene via Lokoja to embark on a total cleansing of the crime prone neigbourhoods.
The first casualty was one Momojimoh (alias Emjay) in Adavi Local Government Area. This was followed immediately by the arrest of the notorious gangstar leader who was previously an informant with the police departments in Kogi, Edo and Ondo states. He is by name Ilyasu (informant). Ofcourse he was in the police in Lokoja to rescue his gang member that was in the police net. He had collected money from the kinsmen of the boy (Emjay) for the rescue operation. Unfortunately, he met his waterloo.

A record of forty criminals, thugs and street urchins has been arrested so far as at the close of last week, the 17th of November, 2006.

Therefore, the recently concluded Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election was peaceful due to this mass arrest. Kogi state would have been worse than any elsewhere.

However, the chieftain of these things and criminals the Chairman of Okene Local government, Alh. Salihu Ohize was caught napping as a result of wards that were arrested. This has created a serious dent on his political carreer.

Though, the SASS Operation continues and peace now reigns everywhere. The Operation cut across the entire Ebirraland. So the struggle continues.

THE OBOBANYI OF IHIMA:The son of Ihima Ochuga, now known as Anemani created the first throne and founded the stool of Obobanyi of Ihima Chieftaincy title.By unilateral rule of descent of patrilineal societies, only the male descendants of an ancestor could rule the people if his identity, linage and history are to be preserved. This was why and how Anemani became the ruling house of Ihima district and not an imposition as claimed by detractors.
Although, there are now six clans in Ihima, not all are directed descendants of Ihima Ochuga. The six clans are not sextuplets;they evolved several decades and centuries after one another and so,could not be described as equal or autonomous in any sense of the word.
The Ihima society had taken shape as full-fledge society before some of the clans evolved. To preserved the line of decent of each clan and a sense of self rule, the Obobanyi of Ihima as the royal progenitor and paterfamilias of Ihima people became the bestowal authority who conferred titles on subordinate Chiefs of Ihima clan descents:-The Ogasube Of Ezure, Oborogu of Ohueta,The Ohiomata of Odumi,The Otaru of Ohianwa and the Idu of Oha The clan. All Are members of Ihima traditional Council of Chiefs under the leadership of Obobanyi of Ihima.More-over the kogi state Chieftaincy Law of 1992 as amended created the office of the Okehi Local Government Traditional council of which has the Obobanyi as statuary chairman, which further reinforced his status and authority on chieftaincy matters.
It therefore amounts to mischief for any group of people to still be searching for a ruler to serve as symbol of communal cohesion''when one is in place for over three centuries, tried, tested and have passed the test of time.
Evidence of Obobanyi of ihima:
As early as 1910,Mr.Groom and Mr.Cator wrote that Ihima,Eika and Adavi has their headmen. This was also reiterated by Paul Brown in his work'The Igbira`' in the general title of Ethnographic Survey of west Africa and subtitled´´the people of the Niger-Benue Confluence' The Obobanyi of Ihima was the 'headman' referred to therein.
The Annual Report on Igbira division for 1924 by MC Cabe Cadet,D.O'the ruling family of the Ihima Group, from which the throne and title of the Obobanyi of Ihima is derived.
The Obobanyi of Ihima established the first and only court in the whole Ebiraland before colonial rule.the court held at Idaokarei and Akpata was the judge while the was the chief Arbitrator.
At the advent of Colonial rule, the court was the first to be recognized,Akpata was confirmed and appointed a judge and the Obobanyi of Ihima was made president of native court of Ihima and subsequently as amember,Native Appeal Court of the Atta of Ebira.
In a report by R.L.Payne,District Officer Igbirra Division in 1927,Adai Simpa Of Emani Clan was recorded as the Obobanyi of Ihima, residing than at Obeiba.
Administration:The 1st quarter report on Ebira Division 1932 indicated that there were five natural groups of Ebira people namely;Okengwe,Adavi,Eika,Ihima and Eganyi, the haed of each group being hereditary holder. The Obobanyi of Ihima is the hereditary throne of Emani clan who created the title.
Post Independence:
At the creation of Ebira Traditional Council in 1977,the Obobanyi of Ihima was pioneer member and in 1978,he was appointed by kwara state Government into the Land Allocation Advisory Committee of Okehi Local Government.
Soon after the creation of Kogi State in 1991,the Government of Colonel Danladi Zakari granted official recognition to the stool of the Obobanyi of Ihima and appointed him a 2nd class traditional ruler.
The Kogi state Government made a Law in 1992.The Law created five Area Traditional councils, one of which is Ebira Area traditional Council. The Obobanyi of Ihima is not only a member of this Council,he is also the Chairman of Okehi Local Government Traditional Council,as well as being a member of Kogi State Council of Chiefs.
The Obobanyi Of Ihima was inaugurate in 1994 as the statuary Chairman of Okehi Local Government Traditional Council,a post he held competently up till now.
In February 1999,the Obobanyi of Ihima was given official staff of office as a 2nd class Chief by the Kogi State Government.
We the Ochuga descendant union home and abroad humbly calls upon all Ebira sons and daughter to look into the matter of Ohi critically and clean it from Ebira history book.Long live Obobanyi!Long live Ohinoyi and Long live Ebiraland.Ohomorihi onavo asa azaa ta enebira,da asa azaa vata enemani,Ameeo!
