EVI-Letters to Ebira Youths

EBIRA VONYA INTERNATIONAL

Dear Beloved Youths of Ebiraland:

RE: Crisis in Ebiraland

On behalf of Ebira Vonya International, we are writing to you to express our (sons and daughters of Ebira land, residing at different regions of the world) deepest concerns over the violence and senseless destruction of lives and properties across the entire ebira land.
In case you have not heard of the existence of EVI, we would like to provide you with a little bit of background information.
The members of EVI are citizens of Ebiraland-Nigeria, and the world at large. Our members reside all over the world.
The organization, a non-political movement, is established for the benevolent and charitable purposes of promoting and developing the unity, social, economical, justice, peace, moral, educational, cultural and general welfare of all Ebira people and community all over the world by maintaining their social and organising, supporting and promoting mutual help and succour to those of them who are in need.

We are writing to you to acknowledge that we have heard of the on-going crisis (resulting from clannish sentiments) in Ebiraland that have led to the destruction of properties and innocent lives.

The crisis in Ebiraland has been a concern to us, especially when we think of what the future looks like in Ebiraland for youths. During our youth days (when we were growing up in Ebiraland), Ebiraland was a vibrant society that every other people in Nigeria held in high regards; the Ebira people were one of the most hospitable and tolerating group of people. In terms of academic achievements, Ebira youths were among the brightest in Nigeria. These good traits have helped many of us achieve our goals in life – have stable jobs, get tangible education and raise families. By allowing the current crisis to continue to culminate, your future will be very blink with the possibility to realize your dreams becoming impossible. This situation can get worse from one generation to the other. The Ebira society may gradually degrade into a state of anarchy where all Anebira will become refugees in other areas of Nigeria.

To shape Ebira society in the right directions, the youths have to strive to get tangible education, get good and stable jobs, and settle down to raise families while passing on the culture and tradition of Ebiraland to your offspring. Now, the crisis in its current state in Ebiraland will deny you of these opportunities in the same way it is already denying the entire Anebira of the required status quo in Kogi State. The purpose of this letter is to amongst other things bring to your awareness the following:
You, the youths of Ebiraland, are the future of our land.
You have to stand up to defend and shape your future in the right direction.
You have to be united, irrespective of clannish background and religious believes.
You have to see each other as same and equal.
You have to love your selves and your neighbors.
You have to engage in healthy competition with other schools.
You have to stop unnecessary rioting, destruction of properties and killing of kids from other schools due to their success in sport events.
You have to start seeing soccer matches and other sport events as means of socializing with each other.
You have to unite with other kids from other schools and preach peace in lieu of violence.
You have to study hard and engage in the construction and building of your communities.

We, the members of EVI, are ready to render assistance to you in this regard. For example, next year we are planning to start EVI Scholarship Assistance to two best students (female and male) from all colleges for their university education. EVI will be planning other activities geared toward improving social state in Ebiraland; these activities will require your active participation. With this, we are urging you to start helping our ailing land to return to its vibrant and peaceful nature that will aid you in shaping your future. We are ready to render any assistance you need in this journey. We wish you and us success.
