Highlights of the July 2006 meeting minutes:

Three major items were discussed:
a) Dispatch $2000 as an aid to the Ihima crisis’s victims
b) EVI scholarship
c) Collecting dues and donations

What Has Been Achieved with the $2000 Aid for Victims?

According to Dr. Ochetengwu, the home-based members met and decided to raise additional 100000 Naira before a concrete plan is set forth for the use of the fund. Dr. Ochetengwu indicated that they plan to raise this money by November ending.

Decision: The $2000 provided must be immediately used to assist the victims. The home-based members shall meet and decide on using this money by Mid December 2006. If the home-based members are able to raise the additional 100000 Naira in the future, then further help can be provided to the victims. It should be noted that helping the victims is not a one-time exercise.

Collecting Dues and Donations:

1) Dr. Ochetengwu reported that it has been difficult to collect dues, which was set at 5000 naira, from the home-based members due to financial difficulty but he will continue to remind members to pay their dues. Dr. Yakubu was unable to explain how they plan to raise 100000 Naira by November ending if there is a problem collecting 5000 Naira for annual dues. However, Dr. Ochetengwu is prepared to wire his own dues directly to EVI’s account.
2) Some of the members that participated in the meeting also indicated their preparedness to transfer their dues to the account directly; Mr. Abdullahi and Mr. Jimoh are prepared to pay their own dues directly to EVI’s account as well. Mr. Jimoh is a student and he will be paying 50% of the dues set for Europe and North America, i.e. $100.

Decision: The Bank information for the remittance of annual dues, will be provided by the General Secretary – Dr. Sunday O. Abraham.
The Bank Account has to be deleted because of fraud. Our Account has been hit by hackers. It was brought to my attention by the Treasurer. Further investigation will be conducted.

EVI Scholarship Aid:

The General Secretary indicated that no fruitful discussion can be advanced in regards to scholarship aid without significant development in aiding the victims and collecting dues and donations. Our priorities for now are: a) to ensure that the victims receive the money dispatched for financial assistance and b) to collect dues and donations so that we can function as an entity. This was agreed to by all.
